Inverness to Drymen
Map 10 and route
Map 10 Glen Artney (Dalrannoch) to Callander
At the other side of the wood the footpath joins a farm track once more. In the shooting season, this will be festooned with bird. The track eventually crosses a large burn just north of the Water of Ruchill. Carry straight on here until you see two old farm buildings; take a line between these until till you reach a gate. Go through the gate and follow the fence line over two miles of low wet moorland until you reach a small enclosure. Enter this through the gate and cross the burn, Allt Srath a Ghlinne, via an estate bridge. Take a right on the other side of the bridge and pass through the estate buildings and stables at Auchinner. Take the track over the small rise of Monadh Odhar keeping the pine plantation on your right, and follow this down to a bridge over burn Allt an Dubh Choirein which has a gate on the far side. (Do not take the track to the right up Gleann Dubh Choirein) Once through the gate there is a good track over more lowland moor and after about 2 miles or so you will reach Arivurichardich (an old farm). Here you will see a small reservoir up the valley to your right. Continue to follow this track down to your left until you reach Keltie Water. Cross the bridge and take the track down the west side of Keltie Water until you reach a farm at Braeleny, where a single track road takes you into Callander. If the water is high and you cannot cross the bridge, follow the sheep tracks to the east of Keltie Water. Get as high as you can here, as the valley has some steep sections near the river itself, but always keep the river in sight. This is a rough walk, but after 1 ½ miles you will see Braeleny Farm on the other side of Keltie Water. Walk down to the river, where you will pick up a small farm track south. After about ½ mile this enters a new tree plantation and a little further on the track joins a forestry road. Take a right here over the bridge and up the small incline to the tarmac road. Take a left here and follow the road into Callander. This road joins the A84 in the centre of town. Take a right turn and walk through Callander until you see a road sign for the A81. Take a left here and cross the stone bridge over the River Teith. Follow the A81 for about ¼ mile until you reach the edge of town. Here there is a small road to your right which will take you to Loch Venachar. You will also see a signpost indicting that you are back on the Rob Roy Way.
